Volume 10 Number 2
AS ONE OF the most common cancers among American women,
breast cancer accounts for more than 200,000 new cancer cases in
women and approximately 39,000 cancer-related deaths every year.
Fortunately, women in the North Country can turn to Claxton-
Hepburn Medical Center for patient-centered, technologically
advanced care from diagnosis to recovery.
Breast cancer services at Claxton-Hepburn are included in
both the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center and the Connection
for Women. The collaborative team that includes oncologists,
radiologists, surgeons, nurses, and patient navigator begins
working in tandem as soon as a patient is diagnosed with breast
cancer. New cases are presented to the team at a biweekly meeting
called the Tumor Board, during which team members discuss the
specifics of the cancer and options for treatment.
