Kishwaukee Community Hospital
Hospital started cardiac rehab in 1981
Kishwaukee Community Hospital began offering Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation to recovering heart patients in
1981. It wasn’t until 1984, that the program began to take off, with evelyn Worrell, Rn, in the lead. the hospital-
based program began with limited technology. Patients exercised one at a time while hard-wired to a monitor which
displayed their electrocardiogram.
Patients exercised on a treadmill, a bike, arm pulleys, and a short set of stairs, gradually increasing the amount of
exercise over a period of three months. technology has advanced. now patients exercise eight at a time while wearing
wireless heart monitors. the
