Kishwaukee Community Hospital<br />
Hospital started cardiac rehab in 1981<br />
Kishwaukee Community Hospital began offering Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation to recovering heart patients in<br />
1981. It wasn’t until 1984, that the program began to take off, with evelyn Worrell, Rn, in the lead. the hospital-<br />
based program began with limited technology. Patients exercised one at a time while hard-wired to a monitor which<br />
displayed their electrocardiogram.<br />
Patients exercised on a treadmill, a bike, arm pulleys, and a short set of stairs, gradually increasing the amount of<br />
exercise over a period of three months. technology has advanced. now patients exercise eight at a time while wearing<br />
