DivisioN ii MeMbership report 25 natIonal champIonshI festIvals Many of Division II’s attributes have been exhibited through a series of National Championships Festivals that have been conducted since 2004. The festivals – one fall, two spring and one winter so far – have brought as many as six Division II national championship events together at a common place and time. The result has been a championships experience that goes beyond what likely would occur at a single-sport event. The concept of a sports festival was born in 2001 in response to student-athlete concerns that the Division II championship experience often did not match the impor- tance of the achievement.
