Eight years ago, Athletics Director Craig Littlepage articulated his vision for
“Uncompromised Excellence” across Virginia's 25 sports. The spring of 2010 saw that
vision come to fruition when four teams earned a No. 1 national ranking.
During one stretch, men's tennis, men's lacrosse and baseball were simultaneously the
top-ranked teams in the country. Rowing added the fourth top ranking and fifth overall
for 2009-10. Men's soccer ended their season in the fall ranked No. 1.
“We have had several years where we've had one or two teams that were ranked
number one in the country. To see that four of our teams this spring achieved the
ranking of number one certainly has provided a level of attention to our program. That
has been an affirmation of not only the hard work that the coaches and student-athletes
have put in, but also the loyalty and generosity of the fans that have supported the
programs
